3 Keys To Making Good Decisions In Life
Every single day, we are constantly making decisions, without even realizing it. Whether it is something small like choosing the flavor of your ice cream or something huge like considering changing your career path, we are always making one or the other decisions.
While the smaller decisions might not impact our lives that much, some of the larger ones can literally change our whole lives. As such, it’s important to take steps to make sure that we try to make as many right decisions as possible.
Below are some really simple and uncomplicated keys that will definitely help you in your decisions making:
1 | Weigh Your Options Extensively
The whole process starts with weighing your options. Typically, there is more than one way you can react in any given situation. In some cases, there may be so many options that it can leave you utterly confused.
But if you go about it methodically, you shouldn’t face too much trouble. You need to think about every single option separately and figure out what each entails. The best practice is to make the good old pros and cons list.
Doing so immediately gives you a larger perspective. It shows you the consequences of your final decision. So, even if things don’t go right, after you’ve made your decision, at least, you won’t be caught off guard. And if things do go your way, you will be in a position to immediately capitalize on any opportunities (since you were aware of them beforehand).
2 | Logical Decisions Over Emotional Ones
We like to think that we are logical beings but the reality is that we are actually emotional beings. Most of the time, your emotions can trump your logic while making a decision. This can lead to bad consequences (as we’ve all experienced at least once in our lives).
You have got a brain for a reason. It would behoove you to use it. Only when you apply logic can you think about something based on its merits rather than how you feel about it. Basically what I’m trying to say is that cold logic will allow you to make the hard decisions in life while your personal feelings will do the opposite.
Of course, it also depends on the situation you are in and the type of decision you’re trying to make. When it’s about love, obviously you need to go with the heart. But when it’s about finances or business, the brain rules above all.
3 | Seek Counsel
Every person has at least one other person in their lives that they can trust. When you’re trying to make an important decision, it is wise to seek their counsel. You don’t have to follow exactly what they say, but it is always a good idea to take a second opinion.
Doing so gives you a wider perspective on things and might even reveal a few things that you hadn’t even thought about. This directly helps you make a better decision since you have more data to work off now.
If you have a mentor or someone who has been in the same situation as you find yourself in, it’s better to take their counsel first. Their information and insights will be far more valuable than anyone else’s.
