The Key to Building a Strong Personality
The personality development industry is large and up to $500million is spent every year on self-improvement methods. However, 96% of the time, the struggle for personal development fails. In fact, many of us find the New Year resolutions for self-help quite humorous as well. This is due to the fact that when we think of self-improvement, we think about a catalytic change that will come overnight. We can go our entire lives taking seminars, listening to lectures, and reading self-help books without a change. So here are the key values you need if you really want to change:
Denial And Suppression
Our first mistake when personal development is concerned is to take hiding for change. A lot of us suppress our own ignorance, flaws, and mistakes to appear authentic and developed. However, if you look at influential people around the world, you will hear them acknowledge their shortcomings. Acknowledgment and acceptance is the first step towards achieving self-improvement.
Company Influence
‘A man is judged by the company he keeps.’ We have all heard this sentence. It is true that your company can influence you even if you don’t want to admit it. If you want to work towards personality development, you should hang around people who have achieved what you seek. Spend more time reading or listening to people who are on their journey of self-improvement. You will also notice your own behavior changing with time.
Staying Unique
You are making a mistake if you are trying to fit in. A strong personality will keep their unique characteristics despite what people say. Whether it is your ideas about a political issue, the way you dress, or the career path you have chosen. Your personality development depends on your ability to stay true and close to your own identity rather than copying everyone else.
Something Great
You have to know that possessing a strong identity does not mean that it cannot be changed. It means that when something great comes your way, you will know how to adapt to it without letting your ego come in the way. Your personal growth is fueled by these life-altering moments. You have to be willing to change when the push comes to shove and times call for it.
Sifting Through Feedback
You have to learn to take a stand for yourself if you want to notice personal growth. Of course, you can always apply constructive criticism in your life for further enhancement of personal development but you should learn to differentiate between the positive and negative types of feedback.
TO WRAP UP
A strong personality is built on the integrity of character which you will develop with time. Instead of being impatient, try to take every day as your opportunity to learn something new and apply it in your life. As long as you are willing to be practical and improve yourself, you will always find ways to be a better person. After all, a strong personal development begins with the courage to will.
