Breaking Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I once read a quote that touched me deeply. It was, "life happens outside your comfort zone." If you stop and think about it for a second, life is a magical phenomenon with countless things going on at the same time. And the decision on whether you want to be a part of that or not depends totally upon you. Knowing this, what would you want to do?

Look, I understand that we are all different from one another. Some people want to just go out and paint the town red while others form a bubble around them and are happy in doing so. I am not one to judge, but I also believe that it's worth taking chances in life. Who knows, in what magical ways you might enhance the experience of your life!

If you do decide to break out of your comfort zone, the following ways will be of great help.

Start Small

Many people who decide they want to try out new things might soon fall back to their old ways. This might happen if they try too much in too little time. You have to ease your way out of your comfort zone. So, you could start off by trying something small that scares you.

After you have that first experience of thrill, you can move to something bigger. And then to something even bigger. Make sure to give yourself ample time and space to do so. Think of this as a year-long project and you won't be overwhelmed from the start.

Study The Things You Fear

Sometimes, you fool yourself into thinking that you don't like something or that you're not comfortable with it. I think this is your mind's way of keeping you inside your comfort zone where it is all warm and cozy. So, you need to sit down, and really introspect whether you are really uncomfortable with the things that you think you're uncomfortable with.

Again, take your time with this. Examine one thing at a time. Let's say you fear eating at new restaurants. Ask yourself whether that is even true. If yes, ask yourself why. You might find that a lot of your fears are simply baseless and this could lead you to change.

Ask Friends For Help

Do you know who would be the happiest when you tell them you want to break out of your comfort zone? Your friends, of course! Your friends (the ones who are closest to you), are always there when you need them. So, why not ask for their assistance in this matter too?

If you know that there are certain things that you just won't do by yourself, you could ask your friends to push you and encourage you. Ask them to accompany you until you feel comfortable doing it all by yourself. Think of it as learning to ride a bicycle.

Find A Compelling Reason

To do something you need to have a reason. It only makes sense, right? So, whenever you want to do something that you're not quite comfortable with, find a compelling reason to do so. Let's say you don't like going to parties but you know you should do it for your own sake.

In this case, you could tell yourself that you want to make new friends or just have fun and destress yourself. In my opinion, these are reasons enough to get dressed and just head out. But the reasons should be meaningful to you. Only then will you be encouraged to take action.

To Wrap Up

Breaking out of your comfort zone might seem like a herculean task. After all, you are starting a new way of life where you'll be facing your fears, doing things you might not be comfortable with, and taking chances. If you're not naturally inclined to do all of these, it might seem scary at first. But like most things with life, you get better at it with practice. There are many ways you can start to ease ou of your comfort zone. Try them out and see for yourself!
