6 Powerful Habits of Successful People

Many of us are already aware of what the word habit means but not a lot of us are familiar with its implications in our daily lives. We simply overlook how these little customs and rituals impact our lives. Wendy Wood suggests that habit formation can take 5 days to 254 days but consistency is key if you want to achieve your goals.

If you take a close look at the life of geniuses and successful people, you can identify habits which eventually helped them achieve their ambitions and personal development. I am going to share six of those with you so you might feel compelled to add some of these to your daily life.

1 | Early Bird Gets The Worm

From Jeff Bezos to Bill Gates, successful men & women are up and awake before anyone else. Robert Iger the CEO of Disney and Marissa Mayer of Yahoo are no exception to the list of highly well-established people who wake up at the first hint of dawn. As the author of The Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod suggests, you should go to sleep with something in your mind that will excite you about waking up early like having that cup of coffee, meditating, or making breakfast, etc.

2 | Take The Muse

Do you wait for inspiration to strike like lightning yet end up wasting hours without accomplishing your goals? In the words of a famous author, W. Somerset Maugham: “I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately, it strikes every morning at nine o'clock sharp.” Instead of relying on inspiration, set a particular time for your goals and force yourself to do the things that you need to do in order to complete your projects.

3 | Really Indulge In Reading

You have to stop making excuses to skip reading, right now! Billionaire Mark Cuban has a habit of reading three hours a day. Ex-President Obama, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg are all avid readers and set reading goals for a day or week. I am convinced that a huge part of success comes from reading the words of others which can be used to shift our own perspective about personal development.

“Think before you speak. Read before you think.”

4 | Calm Your Mind

When you think of being successful, calming down does not seem like something that will help you. I learned it the hard way that a scattered brain leads to a scattered life and hinders personality development. You’d be surprised to know how many successful people meditate to earn clarity of mind including Oprah Winfrey and founder of Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington. I think you should begin by meditating for 1-5 minutes every day to build this habit. To learn the best and easiest way to meditate read my article on 3 Habits That Will Change Your Life.

5 | Sweat It Out

Almost every other highly-accomplished person is a believer in working out regularly. Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour plays tennis while Tim Cook of Apple works out every week and enjoys other activities like cycling too. As Laura Vanderkam puts it, “These are incredibly busy people. If they make time to exercise, it must be important.

6 | Don’t Lose Hope

And lastly, the most important habit you need to cultivate is that of never giving up. If you begin any one of these habits you just need to be steady. If you miss a day, don’t think you are not capable of doing it. Instead, pick it up the next day and try again :) be kind to yourself it is not possible to transform yourself overnight. After all, the key to success is consistency, self-improvement, and courage.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
